Poolside Artificial Turf & Hardscape in East Brunswick, NJ
Our East Brunswick portfolio project is a full synthetic lawn around an in-ground pool — turf replacing the grass that never survives splash, chlorine and bare feet, run right up to the coping. If you are weighing turf around your own pool, this page covers how it is built, how the edges are finished, and the trade-off people ask about most: heat.

Why the lawn around a pool fails, and what turf fixes
Grass at the pool edge gets the worst of everything: constant wet feet, splash-out, chemicals, lounge chairs dragged across it, and a mower that cannot get close to the coping. It goes thin, then muddy, and the mud ends up in the water.
A drainage-backed synthetic turf surround drains straight through, stays green without irrigation, and needs no mowing next to the coping. On the East Brunswick job the turf runs to the coping and out to the planting beds, so it reads as one lawn rather than a patch laid around the pool.
An honest note on turf heat
Synthetic turf in full summer sun gets hotter than natural grass. A June 2022 technical memo from the NJ Department of Environmental Protection cites measurements of synthetic turf surfaces well above the surrounding air temperature. Around a pool that is manageable: put lounge areas and the main walking path on pavers where the layout allows, use shade where people sit, and a quick hose-down cools the surface fast.
Tell us how you use the space — kids, dogs, all-day lounging — and we will balance turf and pavers accordingly rather than carpeting everything.
Before you expand the pool deck
Swapping lawn for turf changes the surface, not the footprint, but whether turf counts toward coverage depends on how the township treats it, and new pavers always count. If you are enlarging the deck at the same time, confirm the coverage limit for your lot with East Brunswick’s zoning office before the design is final; we can size the paver areas to fit.
Close to our yard
East Brunswick is about seven miles north of our Monroe Township yard, so site visits, material runs and follow-up visits are quick. Turf bought by the roll for a do-it-yourself project ships on our own truck inside the local delivery zone.
Common questions
Does artificial turf get too hot next to a pool?
It runs hotter than grass in full sun. Plan paver areas where people lounge, add shade where they sit, and hose the turf down on the hottest afternoons; we design the layout around how you use the yard.
Can turf be installed right up to the pool coping?
Yes. We cut and secure the turf tight to the coping and existing edging so there is no gap, curl or trip edge, and the drainage backing lets splash water pass straight through.
Is synthetic turf slippery when wet?
No. Water drains through the backing instead of pooling on top, so wet turf keeps its grip, which is one reason it works well in the splash zone.
